The Datamars Sustainability Foundation (DMSF) is excited to announce the launch of a new podcast series that shines a light on the vital role animals play in regenerative agriculture and food systems. This project, supported by DMSF, and co-created and co-produced with Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food, brings together voices from across the farming community, research, and policy to share real-world stories and insights about the benefits of animal integration into farm and food systems.
Bridging the knowledge gap
Since the mid-1900s, new technology and bigger farms have led many industrialized countries to separate and specialise crop and livestock production (Sekaran et al., 2021). This series will focus on the potential benefits of reversing this trend by exploring the wide-reaching benefits of bringing animals back into the heart of regenerative agriculture. By sharing practical experiences from farmers and researchers in places like Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, and the Netherlands, the series aims to broaden awareness and encourage the integration of animal partners on farms of all types.
Learning from the past, looking to the future
The podcast also recognises the value of indigenous and ancestral animal farming knowledge, much of which is at risk of being lost. By featuring these perspectives, the series not only honors traditional wisdom but also explores how it can inform modern, sustainable practices.
Supporting farmers
At its core, this project is about amplifying farmer voices and sharing their experiences with a wider audience. Listeners will hear from a diverse group of changemakers—across different geographies, farm types, and husbandry systems—who are leading the way in regenerative animal integration. We aim to also engage policymakers through on-farm “Walking the Land” experiences, helping bridge the gap between agricultural policy and on-the-ground realities.
Why this matters
Regenerative animal integration is fundamental to building food systems that are healthy for people, animals, and the planet. By providing accessible science and real-world stories to counter misperceptions, this podcast series supports the long-term sustainability of local farming and the encompassing communities. It offers insights for anyone interested in the future of farming—from farmers seeking new ideas, to policymakers, and to those in the investment and financial community.
