José Martín Jáuregui and Mea Lewis - headshots

13 May 2025

The Datamars Sustainability Foundation (DMSF) is pleased to announce the appointment of José Martín Jáuregui and Mea Lewis to its newly established Advisory Council, as a further step to advance the Foundation’s vision of sustainably feeding the world and boost support for its programmes underway in Europe.

The DMSF Advisory Council will serve as a collaborative forum of cross-disciplinary thought leaders to guide landscape-level regeneration through science-informed, community-grounded strategies.

“We are a global foundation stewarding regenerative agriculture by integrating animals into thriving ecosystems, centered around farmer agency and co-creating systemic transformations rooted in the wisdom of land, people, and place. By working across diverse farming landscapes, uniting international networks, and bridging science with practice, we work with farmers and ranchers to co-create healthy soils, thriving ecosystems, nourishing food, and resilient rural futures” says, Jessica Villat, CEO of DMSF.

The Council will comprise rotating advisors with expertise in fields relevant to the Foundation’s mission. Members will provide counsel, foster innovation, enhance operational excellence and support the Foundation’s long-term impact.

With the Advisory Council appointment of José Martín Jáuregui, Senior Animal Agriculture Advisor and expert in the eco-physiology of pastures and the development of sustainable livestock systems, and Mea Lewis, Senior Strategic Development Advisor and experienced global asset, fundraising and social impact leader, DMSF benefits from valuable expertise and leadership experience in areas aligned to its current programme and future resilience.

With a focus on animal integration in the landscape, DMSF aims to embed regenerative agricultural practice through practical and scalable innovation, spark collaboration and facilitate transparency across the food value chain, and inspire the next generation of farmers.

DMSF’s dedication to animal integration and enabling farmers as leaders of change is visible in its first four projects underway:

  • an innovative peer-led educational coaching programme in Switzerland, assisting farmers in transitioning to regenerative grassland management,
  • an accredited regenerative agronomist training programme to address the critical shortage of trained agronomists in regenerative agriculture in Europe,
  • a podcast series on the role of animals in the food systems of the future to inspire systemic change by connecting global listeners with personal stories from around the world
  • a research project in Ireland combining social and natural sciences to explore the economic, environmental and practical impacts of adopting multispecies swards (MSS) for sustainable livestock farming.

DMSF, together with its Board of Directors, warmly welcomes José and Mea to the Advisory Council, and looks forward to their ongoing contributions in this important space.

“As DMSF evolves, we remain committed to inclusive participation—especially elevating the voices of those who live and work on the land. The Advisory Council is a vital step in shaping a regenerative future where science, practice, and local knowledge unite. We warmly welcome José and Mea and look forward to the ongoing enrichment of our mission through future collaborators, including farmers and other changemakers”, says Villat.
